Funded by the National Institutes of Health, scientific study of Modeling to Learn is underway to determine its effectiveness increasing delivery of evidence-based addiction and mental health care (NIDA R01DA046651; PI: Zimmerman). The Modeling to Learn program supports multidisciplinary teams of frontline psychiatry, psychology, social work, nursing and certified peer support specialist providers in the Veterans Health Administration. This website supports the research effort by providing simulation demonstration to implementation science/quality improvement researchers, and to patient, provider and policy-maker stakeholders across the Veterans Health Administration, and other integrated addiction and mental health care systems.
Modeling to Learn
Modeling to Learn uses state-of-the-science system dynamics modeling tools to provide learners with a systems view of their system problem. By using a suite of delivery models, clinicians and managers can safely experiment with ways to improve delivery. Modeling to Learn includes modules for care coordination, medication management, psychotherapy, an aggregated mix of services model and a measurement based stepped care for suicide prevention model. Learners are taught how to use the models through distance learning, videos, written materials and weekly sessions facilitated by VA Team PSD.
